Progressing in the Advocacy Track
Advocacy students must continue to improve on their communication skills in American Sign Language by regularly participating in the Deaf Community. Before graduating, students must pass the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) with a score of Intermediate or higher. It is recommended students take the SLPI at the end of their sophomore year and every semester thereafter until a satisfactory score is reached.. If the student receives an unsatisfactory score, the students are responsible to contact the program director and advisor to review the situation.
Unsatisfactory Demonstration of Skills
Students with unsatisfactory SLPI scores will need to receive an official letter of permission to progress in the program from the program committee graduating from the Advocacy track. Students demonstrating unsatisfactory skills as an advocate in training and/or as an intern in the workplace must receive an official letter of permission to progress from the program committee.
